An excellent discussion: Three quick comments: What was not discussed was English identity/nationalism. Tom, rightly, said that people don't speak of English-Asians, prefering British Asians. Why is that? Nor was English nationalism/exceptionalism discussed as a driving force behind Brexit. It may be uncomfortable to raise the issue of increased hate speak against EU citizens after Brexit, but it exists. A genteel discussion about enfranchisement does not and cannot address the far more fundamental issues brought about by the Brexit vote. In passing, I remark that in Scotland we have no problem with 'Scottish Asians' and that the franchise for Scottish elections extends to all people resident in Scotland.
